Tips for keeping eyes healthy

  1. Eat well
Good eye health starts with eating the right food. Foods which support healthy eyes include green leafy vegetables, fish, eggs, nuts, beans and citrus fruits.
  2. Quit smoking
According to eye specialists, smokers are more likely to get problems like cataracts and optic nerve damage. Although smoking has some social benefits, they do not offset the severe health risks. The sooner you can kick the habit, the better it is for your eye health.
  3. Use sunglasses
The right pair of sunglasses can protect your eyes from harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. Excessive UV exposure can cause cataracts and macular degeneration (AMD), a medical condition which may result in blurred or no vision in the centre of the visual field. Invest in a high-quality pair of shades which can protect your eyes. Buy the better brands.
  4. Take frequent screen breaks
For most of us, we spend far too much time in front of our computer screen and mobile phone screen. This can lead to severe eye strain, headaches and neck pain. Take a screen break every 20 minutes or so and look away for 20 seconds at a distant scene or object. Get up from your chair every 2 hour and take a 15-minute break. Your eyes will feel good and your body will also feel better. Movements improve your blood circulation.

Regular eye check-ups
Your ophthalmologist and optometrist are your friends for the eyes. Go for regular eye check-ups as some eye diseases like glaucoma have no early symptoms. A comprehensive eye examination is worth your money and time – Global Wellness Digest
